2014 GMC Savanah - Wright Conversion Vans - Wexford, PA

GMC Savanah carries on a storied tradition in both passenger and cargo van variations. The full-size Savanah may be an ol’ reliable, but the strong need for big cargo and reliable people carriers keeps the Savanah a relevant and an in demand vehicle.

The list of available choices and configurations is long. Starting with a choice of two lengths and three capacities, you can select either 2- or 4-wheel drive, AWD and RWD. For 2014, three new exterior colors became available.

GMC's rear-wheel Savanah 1500 passenger and cargo vans provide a rugged and durable means of transporting many passengers or a large payload of cargo, it has proven reliability as a cargo hauler and worthy workmate. The RWD delivers tighter U-turns and provides superior performance for heavy-duty towing and hauling.

Savanah 1500 cargo vans are available in a Work Van or an Upfitter trim, providing the superior base for a multi-purpose utility vehicle that can be equipped to suit your comfort needs, or reconfigured for your workplace requirements. Safety features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, StabiliTrak, and front airbags with a side curtain airbag.

The 2014 Savanah 1500 has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 7,300 pounds, came with a choice of two engines: a 195-horsepower 4.3-liter V6 or a 310-hp 5.3-liter V8, both mated to GM's 4-speed automatic transmission. Trim levels for 2014 included cargo, called Work, and Passenger; passenger versions offer two choices: a base-level LS model or a higher-level Savanah LT.

The Savanah LS is the base trim level of the passenger variation, it includes power locks, optional keyless entry, optional is multi-zone air conditioning in the rear cabin, front air conditioning is standard equipment.

The Savanah LT adds several more convenience features, ranging from keyless entry and cloth seats to rear air conditioning and cruise control; several options were on offer, including high-end features such as a navigation system, a rearview camera and rear parking assistance and all-wheel drive.

The Savanah Work offers the basics, radio, vinyl bucket seats, with many optional upgrades so you could really control the out the door price of your cargo van.

As easy to drive as it is on your wallet, it’s hard to find fault with the versatile Savanah. With a substantially stiffened body and improvements in suspension, steering and operations, the engineers at GMC truly made the 2014 Savanah a comfortable and easy-to-drive vehicle. If you are comfortable with an SUV, the difference with this vehicle will prove minor.  You’ll find the high seating position provides ample visibility all around the vehicle, the big mirrors assist in navigation and the available rearview camera makes getting in and out a breeze.

2015 Chevrolet Express RWD - Wright Conversion Vans - Wexford, PA

The 2015 Chevrolet Express is a large, V8 engine commercial vehicle that can be had in either a passenger or cargo configuration. For passengers, it can accommodate 12 in the regular length and up to 15 in the extended length version. The big Chevy represents the epitome of the workhorse van.

Both the 2500 and the 3500 series versions of the 2015 Chevrolet Express came standard with the 4.8-liter V8 engine with 285 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A 6.0-liter V8 engine generating 342 hp and 373 lb-ft was optional, as was an available compressed natural gas (CNG)-fueled variant of the 6.0-liter V8 that produces 282 hp and 320 lb-ft, and an additional option in a 6.6-liter turbodiesel producing 260 hp and 525 lb-ft.

The V8 engines send power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Express models with higher gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR) use specific rear-axle ratios.

Standard features up front included in the base Express include AM/FM radio with MP3 compatibility, and vinyl covered bucket seats. Available extra features include navigation with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, keyless entry, cloth upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.  OnStar with Turn-by-Turn navigation came standard, as does a 110-volt power outlet. For safety, dual front, front-side, and side-curtain airbags were available on the 2015 Express.

If you’re looking for cargo capacity, you find tons of space in the 2500 series at 239.7 cubic feet of cargo volume; 284.4 cubic feet on the 3500 Series. Maximum payload for the 2500 Series is 3,247 pounds in the regular length variant and 3,013 in the extended length variant. The larger 3500 Series carries up to 4,120 pounds in standard length and 3,899 in extended length.

Naturally, the passenger configuration will incorporate less cargo space at 92.1 cubic feet of cargo volume in the 2500 with seats installed; for the 3500 Series you will get 127.2 cubic feet of cargo volume with seats in place. These are still huge volumes of space for luggage, sports equipment, furniture and gear! You will rarely lack for storage space!

In its passenger variation or cargo variation, the rugged underpinnings of the Express have stood the test of time.  A 2015 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van RWD 2500 or 3500 would be a great addition to any business with its tow capacity of 10,000 pounds and its completely flexible cargo area.

It maybe hard to distinguish the difference between a Conversion Van and a Class B motor home when you see them driving down the street. Both of them can fit and ‘live’ on a standard driveway or garage, and you don’t need any extra storage space to keep either. They can have taller roofs, and that may be a give-away that there might be something special inside. That raise expands the interior volume allowing passengers to comfortably stand inside – but still retain that compact footprint.

A Conversion is easy to maneuver, fits in your garage, driveway or on the street, parks in the normal sized parking spots, can be serviced by pretty much any mechanic and gets gas mileage similar to a family van depending on make and model, engine size, vehicle weight, city or highway miles and speed driven. Consumers often use the term Conversion Van and camper van interchangeably.

Conversion Vans and Class B motor homes are both commonly used as vacation vehicles because they are fitted out with amenities that are not found in typical daily-drivers. Both share a few similarities, but the differences are important to understand if you are looking for a smaller travel vehicle.

Conversion Vans make great vacation vehicles and can include some of the same accommodations of a motor home: seats that transform into group seating and sleeping areas, fantastic entertainment systems and tables that fold out when needed. And the Conversion can still be utilized fairly seamlessly as the family car.

There’s no question you’ll also save a lot on fuel over a Class B motor home as well as saving on maintenance. Although Class B motor homes are gorgeous creatures, they can be expensive to maintain even when they are working properly.

Both Conversion Vans and Class B motor homes start life with an average to longer-sized van frame. The Conversion Van is assembled pretty much as a regular transport van but with a luxurious interior that can be customized in thousands of ways – either at the factory or by a customizer shop. The Class B motor home is constructed on the van frame specifically as a recreational class vehicle in the factory, an RV.

Since Conversion Vans are ordinary vans that have modified interiors, they can be used the same way a mini-van would be used in daily traffic. Even though the Class B motor homes are easier to drive and park than larger RVs, they are not really designed to be driven as commuter or city vehicles. They’re great for weekends but it doesn’t make sense to be searching for a parking space in a high profile camper at the mall!

With many consumers looking for comfortable, less-expensive alternatives to the larger, gas-guzzling Class B motorhomes, the Camper Conversion Van has become a very popular option.

Camper Conversion Vans typically look like regular vans outside, but inside you’ll find something very different. The front seats usually swivel around to become part of the living area; there will generally be a food prep space - a propane stovetop, mini-fridge and sink. There’s a group sitting/dining area that can convert into a bed. A Camper Conversion Van generally sleeps two comfortably; some sleep up to four, and if it’s two kids and two adults, all should be well!

Both Camper Conversion Vans and Class B motor homes are built upon a conventional sized or longer van frame. The Class B motor home is assembled specifically as a recreational vehicle (RV) at the factory; it is a van-sized RV, with a small kitchen, sleeping area, and usually a small bathroom. The Camper Conversion Van will be fabricated as a transport van with a more luxurious interior; or, a customizing shop can take the transport vehicle and create the camper magic that you are looking for if you want to do your own design.

Imagine adding an interior dining table with chairs that can seat 4-6 travellers, a fridge with a dedicated battery, a kitchen unit with sink, storage for cooking and dining equipment as well as all your luggage and gear.

Camper Conversion Vans are challenged to maximize space but, at the same time, be spacious and comfortable. That's where art and ingenuity come in. Camper vans are micro-habitations and the advances in design and technology are incredible.

The entertainment options for Camper Conversion Vans are truly mind blowing.  Audio options, flat screen TV, Blu-ray DVD players and game consoles. And not only that they are available, the quality is amazing; surround sound audio made available through the cabin or wireless headphones, HDMI power stations built throughout the interior for cell phone or laptop charging, built-in hotspots for Wi-Fi and on and on. You want to be out there with nature, but having those options will surely make the drive enjoyable, and those features will be fantastic when you want to use your Camper Conversion Van for tailgating!

Depending on how your customization was configured, you won't need electrical or water hookup sites for Camper Conversion Van camping.  Everything powers off the Conversion, but you can always reserve a site with electrical hookups to plug your camper in for some ease of use, but it won't be necessary.  You’ll also be able to function well without an immediate source of water.

Camper Conversions are completely self-contained, which makes them great for any campground. You can avoid having to pitch a tent in the dark, you can settle right in upon arrival in the big woods. Any camper or RV can do the same (though some require special parking), but the benefits and convenience of a van-sized vehicle can’t be overemphasized!

If there is a member of your family with mobility issues, a conversion van is really the best way to accommodate your loved one. The latest technology provides much improved methods for getting in and out of a properly converted van.

There are many different mobility challenges out there and finding the perfect fit will depend on many factors. If your loved ones’ condition is going to be changing, perhaps they are afflicted with MS, you will need to keep in mind updating that may be required within a few years.

There are people trained in this field called Certified Mobility Consultant specialists. There is nothing more important than precisely identifying your needs and planning for the customization. Your loved one should be involved in the process wherever possible. The guidance a professional can provide is hard to overstate.

Make sure you are informed as to all the options out there there are new innovations all the time; this is going to make a huge impact on your life. It is essential that the whole family will be comfortable and satisfied with all the functions of the vehicle, from the drivability to the ease of use. The Certified Mobility Consultant can really help you out here.

We’re very fortunate to live in a time where there are a lot of options in the vehicle mobility marketplace. If your needs include the use of a wheelchair, there are variations in how extensive the accommodation needs to be. If your loved one has no upper body mobility, a different kind of accommodation will be necessary as compared to someone who has full upper body strength and motion.

One of the greatest advantages of a wheelchair accessible vehicle is that the person no longer needs to be conveyed out of the chair and into a passenger seat. Your loved one can be transported directly into the vehicle via a ramp or lift. this can end worries about falls and injuries to both the wheelchair bound and the assistant, and no more folding and packing the wheelchair,

Many of the latches, buttons and controls are remote controlled; often allowing the wheelchair bound to access the vehicle by themself. The chair can wheel right into position for lock down.

Another design aspect to consider carefully is whether to have the wheelchair entry on the side or in the rear.

For rear entry, the wheelchair will be seated in a channel installed in the middle of the floor, usually from the second row to the rear of the vehicle. But there can be variations based on the size of the wheel chair and other factors. The rear entry offers more ground clearance as the rear is generally more elevated than the sides. If your driveway is narrow or if the van will be parked in a garage, this is probably the most convenient way to go. The rear entry configuration is generally less costly as well.

A side entry configuration can provide extra room for maneuverability because the entire, or a portion, of the vehicle’s floor can be lowered. If your loved one is able to drive, this would be the best alternative. Side entry wheelchair accessible vehicles also maintain the rear cargo storage space behind the third row seating, so that may be a big consideration especially if it is the primary family vehicle.
