GMC Savanah carries on a storied tradition in both passenger and cargo van variations. The full-size Savanah may be an ol’ reliable, but the strong need for big cargo and reliable people carriers keeps the Savanah a relevant and an in demand vehicle.
The list of available choices and configurations is long. Starting with a choice of two lengths and three capacities, you can select either 2- or 4-wheel drive, AWD and RWD. For 2014, three new exterior colors became available.
GMC's rear-wheel Savanah 1500 passenger and cargo vans provide a rugged and durable means of transporting many passengers or a large payload of cargo, it has proven reliability as a cargo hauler and worthy workmate. The RWD delivers tighter U-turns and provides superior performance for heavy-duty towing and hauling.
Savanah 1500 cargo vans are available in a Work Van or an Upfitter trim, providing the superior base for a multi-purpose utility vehicle that can be equipped to suit your comfort needs, or reconfigured for your workplace requirements. Safety features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, StabiliTrak, and front airbags with a side curtain airbag.
The 2014 Savanah 1500 has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 7,300 pounds, came with a choice of two engines: a 195-horsepower 4.3-liter V6 or a 310-hp 5.3-liter V8, both mated to GM's 4-speed automatic transmission. Trim levels for 2014 included cargo, called Work, and Passenger; passenger versions offer two choices: a base-level LS model or a higher-level Savanah LT.
The Savanah LS is the base trim level of the passenger variation, it includes power locks, optional keyless entry, optional is multi-zone air conditioning in the rear cabin, front air conditioning is standard equipment.
The Savanah LT adds several more convenience features, ranging from keyless entry and cloth seats to rear air conditioning and cruise control; several options were on offer, including high-end features such as a navigation system, a rearview camera and rear parking assistance and all-wheel drive.
The Savanah Work offers the basics, radio, vinyl bucket seats, with many optional upgrades so you could really control the out the door price of your cargo van.
As easy to drive as it is on your wallet, it’s hard to find fault with the versatile Savanah. With a substantially stiffened body and improvements in suspension, steering and operations, the engineers at GMC truly made the 2014 Savanah a comfortable and easy-to-drive vehicle. If you are comfortable with an SUV, the difference with this vehicle will prove minor. You’ll find the high seating position provides ample visibility all around the vehicle, the big mirrors assist in navigation and the available rearview camera makes getting in and out a breeze.
